Academic council"Reaching your full potential"
St. Michael’s College has set up an Academic Council to ensure that each student achieves their full potential in all subjects. We believe that we have a professional and committed teaching staff who will work with each student to achieve their educational goals. The Academic Council will monitor students who are not achieving their full potential. This Council will be a collaborative approach by all involved - Year Heads / Class Tutors, Subject Teachers, Individual Students and Parents/Guardians. Roles: Year Heads/Class Tutors: will monitors students progress Subject Teacher: is the provider of academic progress. Individual Students: consent to participate. Parents/Guardians: consent to participate. Objective: The objective of the Programme is to ensure that the students will increase their grades in Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate State Examinations. |
How Does it Work |
The monitor/ Year Head sets up a meeting with the student, to discuss his results, what his work level is, whether or not he would be interested in the program. The monitors should list both the student’s strengths and his educational needs i.e. the positives along with the negatives.
|
setting goals |
The student’s present level is examined and a commitment to and process of improvement is agreed. Short-term and long-term goals are agreed. (Study, Grades, Monitoring).
SMART Goals: Specific - what is the specific goal, i.e. I (Student’s Name) will achieve (5A’s and 2 B’s in my L.C.) Measureable – Goals are measured by exam results and monitors Agreed on - attainable Goals Realistic - Monitors and students set realistic Goals Time based – Goals are achieved by a certain time |

Commitment is required
Monitoring requires a commitment to meet, once a week, to discuss progress.
If the meeting goes well then a further meeting should be scheduled A.S.A.P. with the students Parents/Guardians to enlist their input and support. This will require a phone call whereby an explanation of the program is given to the Parent/Guardian.
